What's behind Margo in panel one? That could be a large coffee urn or samovar, or maybe a hot water tank, all of which make marginal sense for a diner. But the other object...a low window, a microwave, or a console TV?
Admittedly, I'd rather speculate on the motivations of a 90-year-old artist than on the meaning of the plot.
fauxprof: I'm going to give it to Frank on this one and say that he's illustrated one of those giant office coffee thermoses and a toaster oven. Both plausible for a diner! Why they'd be out with the customers is a different question.
Hmmm, intriguing. Finally, a blonde woman in pink who does NOT look exactly like Lu Ann. Also, Saturday's strip has Margo in a diner that looks suspiciously like someone's living room, ordering Scotch and--gasp!--using foul language! Will Margo turn even nastier after hitting the sauce? Can't wait to see!

The meandering plot makes the facial morphing that much more pointless. Go, Frank!
