Roll with Butter

There's been a little confusion in the comments (as there is from time to time) about the authorship of the strip. To clear things up: even though the Washington Post (which the blog links to) says the strip is by Frank Bolle and Lisa Trusiani, Margaret Shulock has, in fact, been writing the strip at least as long as I've been writing the blog. Or at least I thought she was. The past couple of of months have definitely felt more Samuel Beckett than anything.

As for this week's strips: are we headed towards a Margo gets kidnapped / "More zippers, mule!" situation, updated with Millennial overlords? This... this pink-shirted gal is supposed to be a young person, right?

You Have Money?

WHAT IS GOING ON! Is this really Margo, or am I reading some OOC fanfic?? Is she talking to the same woman in these two strips? Where are all the people? Did Margo somehow wander into New Jersey? Wasn't Margo just at Diner with Thelma? Why didn't she eat there? Nevermind Diner, THERE ARE LITERALLY TENS OF THOUSANDS OF WAYS TO BUY FOOD IN NEW YORK, why would you ask a stranger for food, and then offer to pay them??

I can't even. Until things start making sense again, I'm just going to write secret messages for the panels. As always, hover over the strips above to read my secret thoughts.

A Thin Moon Rises

The parade of strangers continues? Or is Tim Mills badgering Margo, now just wearing a bad flip wig?

In any case, NO, Margo, no one can tell you where you are unless you know where you're going. I think I got a graduation card a that said that.

Someone is Playing a Trick on Me!!

Okay, so I think the thing I've been worried about recently is that 91-year-old Frank Bolle is struggling to maintain any semblance of consistency, relevance, or general order in his illustrations. (All things, including this riviting storyline, being equal.)

BUT!

I'm really not sure what's going on with the writing anymore either. Is Margaret Shulock inspired by the erratic and sometimes surreal art with this storyline? Are we witnessing some kind of experimental newspaper comic art house piece? OR, duh, I can't believe I just thought of this. Diane Devine is piping a consequential but imperceptible amount of Nitrous Oxide into Gabriella's apartment and it's effecting everyone's judgement and making the house evil. BAMMMMMMMMM everyone!! Mike drop. I'm out.

...kind of liked the idea of art house A3G though.

Give It Up—No One Cares!

That's the Margo we know and love! You let this considerate stranger know what city he's in! You tell him to give it up—no one cares about... him... being considerate? In Manhattan? Or just helpfulness in general? I don't know, but "Give it up—no one cares!" is kind of a great thing to say when you want to terminate the conversation, no matter what the context!
Friend: I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your cat Mittens.
Me: Give it up—no one cares!
Friend: Uh... sorry? Have a nice day, miss?
Taxi driver: That'll be $12.40.
Me: Give it up—no one cares! (jumps out of the car, runs for it)
Grocer: Paper or plastic?
Me: Give it up—no one cares! (goes back to texting)
Grocer: (hesitantly chooses paper)
Boyfriend: I think we should start seeing other people.
Me: Give it up—no one cares!
Boyfriend: Uh...
Me: (grabs purse) I'll call you tomorrow.

Thank Goodness I Lied

Oh my god, it's a Mobius strip of old white guys who want to know if Margo's all right. Is it okay for this old white guy to ask, but not the other old white guy? Is it because she has a thing for Jimmy Durante? Ha cha cha!

Oh, and thanks, thought bubble, for clearing up that Margo super doesn't have any clients. I think Skyler is more qualified to represent herself than Margo is at this point. And that's saying something!
