I have to say, what I saw was not so much gossip as unsolicited helpfulness. Was that the whole interaction with Tina? Because 50% of it was pleasantries. Nevertheless: traumatic enough that Carol left without buying anything and put that squirrel thing back on her lap. Grrr...!
Maybe it's time to move to the big city, girl. Maybe it's time to move in with your doppelganger, whose address is already programmed into the jalopy's GPS, push her out the window, and assume her life. Maybe...

The cat-thing is beginning to resemble the critter from "Gremlins". Let's hope Carol doesn't get it wet or feed it after midnight--or maybe we should hope that she does just that!
Why is Lu Ann complaining about living in a small town? Last time I checked, Manhattan was part of the largest city in the US!
(Maggie, your plot sounds fantastic! It provides a rational explanation for the sudden and sustained transformation of Carol Collins into a Lu Ann Powers-alike. For this reason, I am certain that this will not happen in this strip! It's so BORING!)

Gossip! Gossip! Gossip!
Meroow!
Anyone else notice that the squirrelcat thing's ears seem to follow you? It's eerie!
My understanding of the word 'gossip' is scandalous talk of a 3rd party that is not present. Since we didn't actually see this in the 'gossip queen' panels, I'm assuming the remainder of the conversation was: "By the way, Carol, did you know that Jack's new assistant has a FAWN in her CAR?! And when it's not in her car they're making it behave unnaturally with a horse?!"
"Hi, I'm Freddy, I'm the squirrel monkey possum cat that Carol has clutched to her bossom. You're probably wondering what's going on here in Happiness Falls. You're probably wondering what other sorts of grotesque beast hybrids Dr. Jack Riley has chained up in the basement. Tommie, you ask? I've never...oh, you mean Special Needs Barbary Ape...yeah, she's new, I'm not sure what Jack has planned for her. Well, it's been nice chatting, but I've got to take Carol outside for some air."
