I don't ask, Carol. But it's not hard to guess.
Tommie probably picked Lily up off the side of the road. A teenage runaway. You know the story: alcoholic dad, fretful mother. She hates the uncertainty and tension of their den, so she starts staying out late, smoking cigarettes, wearing orange hunting vests just to be provocative. Then one night, at a stag party, she has a drink. And another. And another! She gets home after a late night of partying and sees herself in the mirror and damned if she doesn't see her father staring back, that son of a buck! That's when she runs away. And I guess that's when Tommie found her!
Anyway, that's my theory. I've got it pretty well worked out, so I'm not sure it could be anything else.

As usual, Maggie, you hit it right on the head! Well, except for the piercings...
Piercings! I knew I missed something.
They really are making it hard to make fun of the artwork in good conscience in the days leading up to Mr. Bolle's 90th birthday.
As to the plot, I suppose that perhaps our veterinarian with a heart of gold has noticed Tommie's engagement ring tan line. Still, not knowing anything about her story other than that she'd been storing a fawn in her hotel room and transporting it her car, you'd think he'd want to know a little more about her background prior to giving her free reign to muck out the stables.
Carol, it's not hard to guess. It's so completely obvious. When you see an upscale woman from New York with a fawn in her car, it's obvious she was so overcome with grief from her fiance dying that she swerved her car and accidentally hit the deer, and then tried to raise the fawn in her apartment before bringing her here. I mean, could it even BE anymore obvious Carol?!
Ha! Best blog ever!
Mostly spot-on Maggie, but you left out the part where Lily's dad, (in the spirit of A3G let's call him "Bucky",) has a very particular set of skills, skills that make him a nightmare for people like Tommie, which he's using to track down the people who left his mate dying by the roadside and took Lily away...
