J. Riley, Veterinarian

Good thing Tommie rented a Hummer or perhaps a Volkswagen Thing to drive Lily up to Happiness Falls, or else it might've been cramped in that car and who knows what kind of hilarity would've ensued!

Let's see... Tommie is not wearing a seat belt, driving on an unpaved road, in an unfamiliar rural area, (Possibly in a rented, unfamiliar vehicle) and has an unrestrained deer in the car. What could possibly go wrong?

Oh please, let this be like one of those horror movies, where ''Doc Riley'' turns out to be some mad scientist doing gruesome deer/human experiments, or perhaps Happiness Falls is really a town of cannibal hillbillies?

@Downpuppy,

Naw. Look at the pontoon fenders in Saturday's strip. That's a pre-war sedan I tell ya!

So is there any chance they rushed through Jim's death and into the Lily plot due to some sensitivity about running a story about a cartoon character dying in a plane accident while a real plane crash was all over the news? I don't think it's inconceivable they yanked the Jim strips that were in the queue and moved up the Lily ones. OTOH it's not clear that Shulock and Bolle are that plugged into current events. (Could have been the publisher?)

Barking Monkey: Oh my gosh! I didn't even think of that. Really good point. Although a big part of the weirdness was that they introduced him and then killed him off so quickly, which happened just before Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 went down (March 8). I guess there could've been weeks planned for talking about the plane crash, ruminating over the plane crash, petitioning God about the plane crash... but I think they have to submit a week of strips at least a week in advance, so probably the strips up to March 15th were done by the time of Flight 370 hit the news.

So in conclusion, I think this really was the plan all along. But I like your idea better.
